I don't know about you, but after a long week of watching the markets and discussing people's futures, I find it hard not to dream about my own retirement. The golden age. Time to put my feet up and live the life that I have always dreamed of.
Sadly, not one part of that dream will become a reality if I do not plan for it while I can. Truth is, once I have stopped working, there will be no money available to spend, unless I have saved some along the way.
With our average life expectancy getting longer and longer, so are the number of years in which we should expect to be retired for. With news this week of the state pension becoming extinct, I have more to think about. Being a woman, with the potential for career breaks along the way, I have even more to worry about.
Looking at the stats now, worryingly only 53% of the UK are adequately preparing for their retirement according to the 2014 Scottish Widows Retirement Report. What about the other 47%?
